Preface

Most people consider people aged 60 and above to be ‘old’. This may well be a thing of the past. Our life expectancy already moved past 80 in many countries. Today, a 60-year-old healthy man or woman has an almost 50 percent chance of living to 90. Those who are in their 40s or 50s are just halfway through their lives. Do you have plans in place to safeguard your health in the second half of your life? Are you longevity-ready? I hope this e-book can answer your questions.

You should read this e-book if: 

  • You want to live a long and healthy life. Ideally, you live healthily into your old age, and one day you just don’t wake up from your sleep.
  • You want to avoid age-related diseases (heart disease, diabetes, cancer, dementia, etc.).
  • You want to find various science-based anti-aging interventions for ordinary people in one place.
  • You are a relatively healthy adult.

Many of the anti-aging approaches mentioned in this document also help to prevent or manage conditions like obesity, type-2 diabetes, hypertension, etc. Individuals who already have chronic health conditions are advised to consult with their medical doctor before starting anything new.

We want to live healthily into our old age

In the past, scientists who believed in preventing, delaying, or reversing aging were considered eccentric. Today, however, anti-aging is one of the fastest-growing fields in life science and is entering the mainstream of medicine. Many scientists now believe that we will find the key for delaying or even reversing aging. In 2019, the American Federation for Aging Research (AFAR) began the Targeting Aging with Metformin (TAME) Trial – – the first large-scale trial to target aging in humans. In October 2020, the prestigious medical journal The Lancet launched a new publication, The Lancet Healthy Longevity. Another leading scientific journal, Nature, launched Nature Aging in January 2021.

In the Supertrends Anti-Aging Dynamic Report, we discussed the newest developments of extending lifespan and healthspan. As exciting as these developments are, all treatments are at least a few years away from becoming available to the general population. If we can already manipulate lifespans in a number of animal species, is there nothing we can do for ourselves to buy some time until the big breakthrough? In this document, we present and analyze new approaches that are already showing promising results in the lab or in small-size human trials to answer this question. We do our best to present only findings that are both scientific and practical. After all, we don't want to live a long life without joy. However, the contents of this document are NOT intended to substitute for professional medical advice.
